Alliance for
Poverty Eradication - ALPE
CSPR
was invited to sit on the
steering committee of the South to South network of the North
South PRSP programme. The local steering committee, comprising
Catholic Commission for Justice Development and Peace (CCJDP),
MS-Zambia, Dan Church Aid and University of Zambia, was formed
in mid 2002. The overall objective of the project is to
strengthen civil society in the south in the active
participation in and influence over local, national and
international political processes around poverty reduction and
the PRSP. Key actors in the programme are civil society
organisations in Zambia, Nicaragua and Honduras. In the three
countries, Danish development NGOs work with coalitions of civil
society organisations involved in influencing poverty reduction
policies. Three Danish development NGOs; Danish Association for
Development Corporation - MS Zambia, Ibis Denmark and Dan Church
Aid, together with the institute for international studies (IIS)
Copenhagen are also key actors in the programme. The Danish
Ministry of Foreign Affairs is providing funds for the pilot
phase. The collaboration between CSPR and MS-Zambia started in
mid 2002 in piloting the North/South PRSP program in Zambia,
whose aim is to strengthen civil society in their active
participation and influence on local, national and international
processes on poverty reduction and PRSP. This program is
on-going in 2003 and might continue with a phase two for another
two to three years.
